Crowns

When a tooth experiences significant damage, a filling may not provide adequate strength. Dr. McKnight may recommend a crown. Designed to fit over a tooth, a crown restores function, comfort, strength, and shape. Dr. McKnight will select an all-ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal, or gold crown based on the location of your injured tooth. We prefer to place white, natural-looking crowns on front teeth. Back teeth often require metal crowns, though, because of the intense biting pressure the restorations must withstand.

Crown placement takes two appointments. At your first visit, expect Dr. McKnight to prepare your damaged tooth, take an impression of your tooth, and place a temporary crown. A quality dental lab will produce your new crown so that it fits perfectly over your damaged tooth. During your return appointment, Dr. McKnight will remove the temporary, secure the permanent crown, and make any required adjustments.
