The Scholarship Behind the Scenes
Dr. Byron McKnight
Dr.
McKnight is known to his patients for his exceptionally caring
attitude, both toward his patients and toward his work. One
of the ways he demonstrates this is in the time he takes
to carefully get to know you as a person,
listening and addressing your particular dental concerns
and needs. This relationship based approach to all of his
patients is what defines one of the most exceptional aspects
of his practice. All of his treatment meets exacting standards
for function, beauty and comfort. Of course, it helps to have
our in-house laboratory, allowing for efficient, accurate
changes and
adjustments as we go.
Dr. McKnight's career is marked not only by a sincere concern
for his work here in the practice, but by a commitment to
ongoing education as well. Several times a year he presents
instructional programs to various local, state and national dental
groups. He has completed five of the available continuum
courses in Cosmetic Dentistry and Restorative Dentistry with the renowned
Pankey Institute, has logged over 1900 hours of general continuing
education credit hours covering topics including complex restorative dentistry, implants, sleep medicine (sleep apnea and snoring), and extensive cosmetic dentistry procedures. He taught Restorative Dentistry for
eight years at Baylor College of Dentistry and is still on staff as an Assistant Clinical Professor. Dr. McKnight earned his Mastership
in the Academy of General Dentistry, and became a Fellow
in the American Academy of Dentistry, the International Academy of Dentistry, as well as the Academy of Dentistry International. As a founder of two indigent care dental clinics in Guatemala as well as the Mission East Dallas clinic in our area he is committed to serving those who are less fortunate here and abroad. In every year since the award was established Dr. McKnight has been named as a "Texas Super Dentist" by Texas Monthly Magazine, an honor given as a result of being selected as one of the top 5% of dentists in Texas. Recently he was also nominated by the Academy of General Dentistry as the Texas Dentist of the Year.
In 2009 Dr. McKnight will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy, an award which has been given to only 80 dentists in the world.
